THE 7 CHAKRAS FOR BEGINNERS

The 7 Chakras for Beginners
To put it simply, if your chakras aren’t aligned, your internal balance is out of whack. And when your internal balance is out of whack, so is your mind, body, and spirit.

You can run on a treadmill for hours on end but you’re only catering to a minuscule portion of your health. Your body is made up of 99.99999% energy and light. So, if you aren’t exercising your mind, body, and spirit, you simply can’t reach optimal physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

What’s that have to do with chakras, you ask? Let’s find out.

Chakras are your body’s energies
The entire universe is made up of energy – good energy, bad energy, exciting energy, electrifying energy, radioactive energy – you name it. So, it only makes sense that your body follows en suite, and that, it certainly does.

Think of chakras as the gears, and your body as the machine.

Chakras are the seven energy forces spinning and rotating inside your body, just like gears do in a machine.

These “gears” (energies) start at the bottom of your spine and extend up to the crown of your head, but if one chakra is off, then so are all the rest. In other words, one emotional, spiritual or physical imbalance can disrupt your mind, body, and spirit. This is precisely why it's so important to practice mindfulness and meditation daily, as these exercises allow you to identify any energy blocks, and work through them to get your "machine" back to working order.

And remember, your body is made up mostly of energy. So, you want to take care of it.

The power of the seven chakras
Discovering the seven chakras within your body can be done with a few chakra exercises, such as meditation. This allows you to become mindful of the different energies pulsating and rotating within your body, so you can feel when a chakra (one of your energies) is “off” or if there’s a block that’s disrupting your energy flow. Remember, the entire chakra system is made up of 7 energies that all work together. If there’s a block in your heart chakra, for example, the energy cannot flow through to your throat chakra and so on and so forth.

The 7 chakras for beginners
If this all still sounds confusing to you, don’t worry. Everyone who’s ever taken the time to discover their chakras has been in your position. Chakras for beginners can be confusing at first but not for long. You just have to first discover what the seven chakras are, so you can then recognize them within your mind, body, and spirit. So, let’s get started!

The Root Chakra (Muladhara)

Colour: Red

Location: Base of spine

The root chakra, also known as muladhara, means root + support. This chakra is located at the base of your spine and has the sole purpose of connecting all of your energies with the earth. It’s the big “gear” that is the foundation for the rest of the chakras, and it’s believed to be the chakra that provides you with everything you need to survive.

A Balanced Root Chakra
When the root chakra is balanced, you will feel a sense of peace and accomplishment in terms of financial and emotional security (things you need to survive). If you have a roof over your head, food on the table, money in the bank, and a safe lifestyle, and feel great about all of those things, your root chakra is likely balanced.

An Imbalanced Root Chakra
When your root chakra is imbalanced, feelings of anxiety, stress, and worry are often heightened. You’re not feeling peaceful and/or accomplished with the things you need to survive, so your root chakra becomes overactive. What’s surprising is that an imbalanced root chakra can lead to more than just anxiety, and can even produce physical symptoms, such as lower back pain, hip pain, digestive problems, ovarian cysts in women, and even prostate issues in men.

On the contrary, your root chakra may be underactive if you’ve never had to be mindful of the things you need to survive. This can result in you feeling aloof or having trouble concentrating.

The Sacral Chakra (Svadhishana)

Colour: Orange

Location: Just below the belly button

The sacral chakra, also known as svadhishana, means “the place of the self”, and it is all about your identity. It’s the chakra that brings a creative life force that helps you to enjoy life. It’s the driving force behind all the things you find pleasure in.

A Balanced Sacral Chakra
When your sacral chakra is balanced, you have no problem indulging in the pleasurable things in life, and can do so without going overboard. Perhaps it’s a night out with the ladies or a luxury weekend away, maybe it’s dining on delicious food or treating yourself to a chocolatey treat. Whatever it is, you’re able to enjoy it without losing control.

An Imbalanced Sacral Chakra
If your sacral chakra is imbalanced, you start to question the things you enjoy. Perhaps you start feeling guilty about enjoying that chocolatey treat or begin to overanalyze whether or not you deserve to go out and do something fun and pleasurable. As a result, you may feel depressed or like you’re lacking passion, creativity, and energy for life.

The Solar Plexus (Manipura)

Colour: Yellow

Location: In between your ribs, in the center of your chest

The third chakra is the solar plexus, also known as Manipura which, in English, means “lustrous gem.” It’s the chakra responsible for your self-confidence, personal power, and identity. It’s where those “gut feelings” and wisdom are born.

A Balanced Solar Plexus Chakra
A balanced solar plexus chakra will provide you with a sense of personal power, decisiveness, and wisdom. You have trust and confidence in yourself and the decisions you make and have no problem stepping forward to be a leader.

An Imbalanced Solar Plexus Chakra
When your solar plexus chakra is imbalanced, you can start to feel like you’ve lost control and power over your own life, like everyone is always making decisions for you because you simply don’t trust yourself to do so. As a result, you may be quickly triggered, feel a desire for control and greediness, and you may even experience a lack of empathy and compassion. You may also experience symptoms on the opposite side of the spectrum, and feel more timid, insecure, and needy.

The Heart Chakra (Anahata)

Colour: Green

Location: Over your heart

Oh, the heart chakra. This is one we can all relate to. The heart chakra is also known as the Anahata Chakra, which means “unhurt”. Yes, you guessed it – this is where all the heartache can be found, but it’s also where all the love, kindness, and compassion begins as well.

What may surprise you is that the heart chakra isn’t just about loving others. It’s about self-love as well. So, you could be in a great relationship with your partner but if you don’t have a great relationship with yourself, you could feel an energy block in this chakra.

A Balanced Heart Chakra
When your heart chakra is balanced, you’re able to happily and healthy love yourself and others. Even when times get tough, you can still see and appreciate the kindness and compassion in others.

An Imbalanced Heart Chakra
On the contrary, if your heart chakra is imbalanced, you can start to feel like you’re losing your personal boundaries. Perhaps you start making unhealthy decisions or jeopardize your own happiness for the sake of love. You may start to treat yourself and others with less compassion and kindness, and physical symptoms may follow en suite as well, such as heart palpitations, heartburn, increased heart rate, etc.

The Throat Chakra (Vishuddha)

Colour: Blue

Location: Between your collarbone

The throat chakra, also known as vishudda, means “very pure”. This is where your voice comes from; where the truth, love, and compassion behind your words are created.

A Balanced Throat Chakra
The throat chakra is highly driven by the energy flowing through the heart chakra. So, when this energy is balanced, you’re able to speak your mind with kindness, truth, and love. You’re confident and mindful of the words you share with those around you.

An Imbalanced Throat Chakra
When your throat chakra is imbalanced, you may struggle with self-expression. Perhaps you feel ignored or maybe even feel like your thoughts and opinions are invalidated. You may also feel the burning desire to interrupt others or tell lies just so you can be heard, or you may do quite the opposite and become quiet, timid, and shy.

The Third Eye Chakra (Ajna)

Colour: Indigo

Location: Between your eyebrows

The third eye chakra, the sixth chakra, is also known as Ajna which means “beyond wisdom”. As such, this is where your mind receives all the information. But don’t be mistaken. This chakra seeks wisdom beyond what you think. It goes into perception and physical energy, intuitive senses, and other sources outside of the standard five senses.

A Balanced Third Eye Chakra
When your third eye chakra is balanced, you will feel a deeper connection to what’s around you. You will feel synced with the physical, spiritual, and material world, and will likely experience heightened – and accurate – intuitive and psychic information.

An Imbalanced Third Eye Chakra
When your third eye chakra is imbalanced, you may find it difficult to receive information outside of the physical world. On the opposite side of the spectrum, you may feel an obsession for things such as astrology and paranormal experiences to the point where it becomes disruptive and overwhelming.

The Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Colour: Violet or White

Location: Top of your head

The crown chakra, also known as Sahasrara, means “thousand-petaled” when translated to English. It’s the foundation of your consciousness and magnetic energy that connects you to the universe.

A Balanced Crown Chakra
When your crown chakra is balanced, which is one of the hardest things to do, you’re reaching your peak of spiritual energy. The final stage of a balanced crown chakra is when you have conquered death and suffering when you have slipped away into a spiritual oasis that happens afterlife. However, the goal is to constantly strive towards a balanced crown chakra to start you on a path towards good health, wisdom, and happiness.

An Imbalanced Crown Chakra
While you cannot have an overactive crown chakra (you can’t go wrong with striving for the best of the best), you can have an underactive crown chakra which is when you don’t strive at all. This feels like being stuck on this planet, with no rhyme or reason as to why or what your purpose is.

Phew! That’s a lot of information but now, you have officially read everything you need to know about chakras for beginners.
