9 POWERFUL MANTRAS TO MASTER IN THE NEW YEAR

9 Powerful Mantras to Master in the New Year
Just because we’re already halfway through January doesn’t mean that you can’t add new mantras and resolutions into your life. After all, any time is a good time to add new mindful methods into your life, meditation, and yoga practice. So, since we’re still at the beginning of the year, make it your goal to master these mantras to make 2022 your best – and most mindful – one yet.

What is a Mantra?
Before we get into the powerful mantras to master in 2022, it’s important to know what is a mantra? A mantra is similar to a chant, only slightly deeper and more meaningful. The word is made up of two English words – man and tra – “mind” and “instrument”. So, a mantra is like the instrument of your mind.

It’s a word or a sentence that reflects your goals, intentions, energies, aspirations, etc. and truly, anything can be your mantra. After all, it’s your mind’s instrument.

To get your brain – and mindfulness - rolling, here are some mantras you simply can’t go wrong with.

“I will accept what I cannot change.”
In 2022, try to remember that everything happens for a reason. Learn to accept the things that you simply can’t control. Oftentimes, the biggest burdens in the world are created by oneself, simply because you want to change things that are beyond our control or refuse to adapt to changes. While there are certainly some things in life worth fighting for, it’s important to let go of the things that you can’t control. If your best friend is always fighting with her boyfriend and has an incredibly unhealthy relationship, let it go. Accept that you cannot change her relationship status… Unless you hack into her Facebook.

Jokes aside, it’s natural to want to help others and change situations for the better but sometimes, it’s just not your job to do so.

“I will accept change.”
Oh, change. It’s so inevitable, often unavoidable, yet so many of us have a difficult time accepting it. Make this year different. Accept the things you can’t change and accept the changes you don’t always ask for. Remember, everything happens for a reason.

Change isn’t always a bad thing, and it often leads to something bigger and better, no matter how hard it may be at this particular time. So, accept it; roll with it; meditate through it – do what you have to do to accept new beginnings.

“I will forgive.”
Forgiveness. It’s one of the harshest F-words out there. Why? Because it’s hard to do. However, forgiving those who have done you wrong in the past will revitalize your mind, body, and spirit. So, wake up every and say, “Today, I will forgive,” and make a conscious effort in doing just that.
Remember, you aren’t forgiving people for them but rather, you’re forgiving them for your own wellbeing.

“Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We only have today. Let us begin.” —Mother Teresa

“I am as one and the same.”
A popular mantra often preached by yoga teachers is, “I am that; you are that; all this is that and that’s all there is.” So, we decided to shorten it up into a quick and simple mantra – “I am as one and the same”. What this mantra means is that, you are able to see yourself as, well, one and the same; that you’re able to see yourself as one for all. It’s a mantra that eliminates filters, labels, categories, races, genders, sexual preferences, etc. And for that, it’s a mantra the world really needs to hear and practice right now.

“I will talk more, text less.”
It’s time to put down the technology and bring back face-to-face interactions. This mantra is short, simple, and sweet. It gets right to the point and needs no explaining. Connect with those around you by talking more and texting less.

“I am one with nature.”
This mantra is an oldie but a goodie! I am one with nature means being in harmony and in unity with your surroundings. So, you could always change this mantra to suit your specific environment. For example, “I am one with my cubicle,” or “I am one with this overly-packed subway car.” Jokes aside, this mantra simply means that you are in harmony or in a state of reconciliation or friendship with what’s around you.

“I will not judge, not even myself.”
There’s really nothing good that can come from judgment – judgment for others or for yourself. So, make it your mantra to let go of all criticism; to stop second-guessing yourself or others; to accept yourself, situations, and others for who, what, or how they are. Judging gets no one anywhere.

“I will embrace the present moment.”
Say goodbye to all the what-ifs and buts in your life. There’s no sense in worrying about the past or tomorrow when today is here waiting for you to take advantage of it. So, in 2022 make it your mantra to embrace and be in the present moment. Don’t worry about what happened or what might happen. Just be present and enjoy.

“I will appreciate more and complain less.”
Another excellent mantra to master in 2022 is to appreciate more and complain less. Society has tricked us into thinking that what we have is never sufficient; that we always need more; we need change; we need to complain because what we have isn’t good enough. That’s just silliness!
